Cutting Edge Events is proud to present Hair for Care. The Hair for Care fundraising event is a one of a kind experience that seeks to generate funds and hair donations for the Canadian Cancer Society and Humber Scholarship Fund. Attendees are encouraged to donate 8 inches of their hair to our cut-a-thon initiative that will help create a wig for cancer patients. This simple act of generosity makes a world of difference to women with cancer. It takes 8 to 15 ponytails to create 1 real-hair wig. There is no cost to the Canadian Cancer Society or to the individuals who receive these wigs.
If attendees cannot donate eight inches, they are encouraged to participate in charity haircuts, hair styling, and express manicures in which the proceeds will be split between our two given charities. Attendees will also be able to participate in hourly door prize draws, a silent auction, and partake in delicious food and beverage.
After my grandmother passed away from lung cancer in 2002, I have been a firm supporter in the work that the Canadian Cancer Society does to help better the lives of cancer patients, cancer survivors and their families, but also the work they do to honour those who have lost their battle.
During the planning stages of this event, I worked as the Lead Digital Marketing Coordinator, Assistant Venue & Volunteer Coordinator, and Assistant Charity Liaison. I have completed a variety of tasks, including running the event's social media platforms, contributing to event website design, designing and monitoring the event ticketing platform; being in correspondence with the Canadian Cancer Society charity representative, and educating and providing training for event volunteers. On event day, I was the Lead Registration Coordinator, who greeted all attendees upon their arrival, assisted in prize draw ticket sales, announced prize draw winners, and monitored the event's social media pages.
As a grand total, Hair for Care was able to generate over $6 000 in total revenue for the Canadian Cancer Society and the Humber Scholarship Fund: event day sales alone totalled $2 500. After financial reconcillation, each charity received $1 500, alongside an extra $2 600 for the Canadian Cancer Society which was raised through online pledges and other types of donations.
