Financial Planner Educator Conference 2016

The Business School at Humber College is excited to bring you another Financial Planner Educator Conference!

Educators and Industry Partners involved in the financial planning industry in Canada will be attending this two-day conference, which provides the opportunity for networking and discussion of the best practices and techniques that may be used to further enhance the knowledge of their students. As the FPSC works toward regulating financial planning services across Canada, the conference provides the opportunity for academics to collaborate on the newest requirements for the Certified Financial Planner certification.

Attendees will discover engaging teaching practices through using comedy in the classroom, which is exemplified in this year’s conference theme, Comedy Through the Ages. Attendees will be thoroughly integrated into a comedic journey, enjoying the evolution of comedy and embracing the ongoing changes of the genre. Attendees will participate in a combat theatre workshop, participate in a variety of improv games, and have a delicious dinner in a comedy club.

As an internship, being part of the Financial Planner Educator Conference presented me with great opportunities. On a team of 8 passionate, emerging event professionals, I was able to learn from other team members, and see the importance of group cohesion. My role as Lead Sponsorship Coordinator and Assistant Volunteer Coordinator allowed me to reach out to businesses and acquire sponsorship, pitch presentations to recruit volunteers, and allowed me to run the sponsor marketplace on event day. Working closely to develop a positive relationship with sponsors and establishing a connection helped make our conference a success, and helped me pinpoint one of my largest event industry interests.
